Elves
are ancient race much older then humans or dwarf or any other humanoid- race, like hobbits. When they first arrive to Middle-earth, in the begging of first age, they meet morgoth and from that moment they foght with him. Elves are called the Firstborn or the Elder Kindren, they are very close to magic ( Galadriel in Lotr - movie adaptation is good example, she is using water for her vision - like Nostradamus anyway

Elves are immune to all disease, and naturally immortal. You can kill them but their natural life is eternal. After death they go to Purgatory - like Halls of Mandos in Valinor- in there their spirits are purified from evil.
